Welcoming the Revd Margaret Higton

Celebration and warm welcome took place at the ordination and induction of Margaret Higton to Giffnock URC in Glasgow on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon on 18 July.

The Revd Lindsey Sanderson, Moderator of the National Synod of Scotland, welcomed family, friends, fellow students and members of the congregation, constituting the Synod meeting to ordain and induct Margaret. Fellow students as Margaret took up her training, Revd Derek McDonald and Revd Lesley Thomson, read from Isaiah 40 and John 10, with the Revd Andy Braunston, Tutor at the Scottish College, giving the sermon.  The statement concerning the Nature, Faith and Order of the URC was shared with those gathered by the Revd Fiona Bennett, Tutor.  The Principal, the Revd Dr John McNeil Scott, as Interim Moderator, presented Margaret for ordination and induction, then presiding at communion later in the joyous worship. The Narative of the Call from the church was given by Maureen Stewart, with the welcome on behalf or the church given by Alison Christie, Church Secretary, followed by welcome from the ecumenical guests present.

The Revd Margaret Higton led the congregation in the blessing to close the service.

This was followed by generous and much appreciated hospitality of traditional tea, coffee, sandwiches and home baking given by Elders and Members of Giffnock URC.
