Welcoming the Revd Eilidh Young, and the new academic year
The academic year 2026/27 at The Scottish College is underway! Our students, who have entered the College across three-years, met in person for the first time over three residential days with Tutors, the Revds Fiona Bennett and Andy Braunston. Time together considered ministerial identity, professional boundaries, Marks of Ministry and reflected on ordination and induction. Students were also joined for one of their sessions by the Revd David Scott, a former student of the College, and who has taken up the role of College Chaplain. The Ordination and Induction of the Revd Eilidh Young concluded this weekend of study and fellowship.
We were joined at the service at Bathgate EU URC for Eilidh’s ordination and induction by many from the National Synod of Scotland, including recent students the Revds Margaret Higton, Derek McDonald, Lesley Thomson and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ms Myra Rose. The service was conducted by the Revd Lindsey Sanderson, Synod Moderator, and the Revd John Bremner, Synod Ecumenical Officer, Secretary to the Scottish College, and former Minister at Bathgate, offered wise words to the congregation and the candidate through his sermon. Two of The Scottish College students, Yvonne Hamilton and Tim Hopley, prepared and offered inspiring prayers for the world and its people. Thanks to all who had prepared the church, welcomed us as we gathered and provided an excellent and plentiful tea in the hall following the service to continue the fellowship and celebration.
The students will continue the academic year in meeting weekly online, as well as joining their University study online or in person, with their next Scottish College Student Gathering in person in November. Weekly College Online sessions will be led by the Revds Fiona Bennett, Andy Braunston and Trevor Jamison, with the Revd Dr John McNeil Scott, Principal, joining the team again on return from his sabbatical.
